I had the opportunity for several days to attend one of the "combines" that are celebrated during this time in the United States and has been an enriching experience in every way, I want to share with you all.
First, and foremost, I have to thank people who have made my stay there, first Abilio Muñoz, the English agency 4 Players Sports, which has been based on who started it all. And of course the organizers, the U.S. company Winning Ways Pro specializing in these events, and especially to his deputy, Matt Resnick, who made my stay in Orlando really nice.
said, first thing is to explain what a Pro-Mix. With some differences between them, basically what you find there is a group of players looking to get a contract appear to face the following season. These players pay a fee, and go to the corresponding city for several days, participate in individual workouts, team, games ... trying to teach the best of themselves in each session. Another interesting service that some of these "Camps" provide players quickly is to hang on internet videos of their matches during the event, a task which in this case ordered the company Basketball Eye.
In our case, as I say, was held in Orlando, Florida, United States east coast. What I could say the city if any of you want to take a break and do some sightseeing ... then prepare yourselves to spend much heat to high humidity (the coast, but also plenty of lakes around - watch out for crocodile ...) and drive if you want to move around the city and its surroundings, as without a car in Orlando, you're stuck (or intended to spend many dollars in taxi). There
coaches I have met Americans, Canadians and Europeans ... all "hunting" of talent for their teams. Also Several U.S. agents were there introducing themselves and their players, whether they were present in the "combine" or not. I was lucky, good contacts and good people who have made the stay more pleasant, if possible.
After several flights (many hours in the air ...) came to Orlando International Airport, where they were already waiting to take a couple of coaches to our hotel.

After several flights (many hours in the air ...) came to Orlando International Airport, where they were already waiting to take a couple of coaches to our hotel.
An upscale hotel (where the coaches met on Thursday night to watch the seventh game of the NBA Finals), half an hour of downtown Orlando and about ten minutes facilities where he held the combine. All these distances, as I say, by car. The hotel gave us a van and a driver moved us every day to see the day of testing - parties, and that allowed us to move around (try to eat more or less healthy, of course, is certainly a goal complicated get)
Turning to the operation of the event itself, began with a presentation to the players, some fifty, some already with experience in European basketball (Germany, Greece), South America (Mexico), Asia (Japan, Taiwan) or Middle East (Qatar ...) as well as others who have completed his college tour this season, or already playing semi-professional competitions Americans. An explanation by the "head coach, Barry Mestel (a veteran coach with experience as a scout for the NBA and the CBA, and working individually with players from different backgrounds levels, from kids in high school" to WNBA players) detailing how they would work everything.
As part of this talk, we introduced the coaches, emphasizing both the players and ourselves that we do not hesitate to talk to each other, to answer questions or explain ideas and more. I must say the players took note of these words, since virtually all of them came to stand along the first day and very politely explain what they wanted the event, ask for our teams, leagues, and season above. It is clear that everyone wanted to please, make a good impression and make it clear that they would give everything to get a contract.
The operation was as follows, beginning physical work with a "trainer" that specializes in professional athletes, a group session with the coach (a couple of days were group sessions, there was another work station, and another day we were the coaches who we chance to do specific training with the players we think is necessary) and ended a series of games between the teams that were developed, trained by "coaches" Americans.
Something interesting for players and new in this kind of "camps" has been a seminar in which I have explained many clues as professional sports nutrition, and they have resolved many questions about what foods are best suited, what kind of products are truly useful to supplement their diets and what not, etc). Also gave some guidelines for your car - training holidays.
For parties, at all times, we ask the "coaches" who led the teams in the games he played some specific situations, or matching players if we were interested to see any player defending a particular rival. The relationship with the organization has been excellent, always providing us with our work and putting at our disposal. Each player has enjoyed roughly the same time on the field, which is critical in these events, and that everyone should have equal opportunity to be seen.
Direct contact with players is essential, and what makes these "combines" to succeed. See the player train (with the opportunity to practice "private") not only in basketball, but also on the physical plane, observe their behavior in various situations, punctuality to start the session, their attention to the explanations, and certainly , to talk with them to gather more feelings ... are details that do not arrive at first hand when a player chips using traditional resources.
So for several days have witnessed the evolution of all these players, taking note of what they could give if our different basketballs.
Once the Pro - Combine, could attend the Campus Rashard Lewis, as you all know, Magic player (also organized by the same company) who knew and with whom we chat amiably for a while before started working with the kids. Even invited us to develop some interesting work that we consider participating children.
In short, an experience to repeat in the future.
